Covid Vaccination Centre or another Hotbed of Infection?
I’m sharing a personal experience here which I had when I tried to get myself vaccinated as per the system laid down by the Government (State and Centre). I registered on CoWin and got a confirmed appointment on 25th April 2021 at Dahisar Jumbo Vaccination Centre.
But when we went there on Sunday 25th April 2021, we found it closed. There was no prior info on this account, anywhere. No communication from the authority or notice on any App or website or handle. From our end we had been calling the given numbers since the morning to know the status of vaccine availability/centre, but there was no response. Assuming things are like this with Govt arrangements, we went there assuming we will get the vaccine as scheduled. But the centre was closed. Watchmen manning the centre told us, that we need to come in the morning preferably at 6-7 am and stand in the queue to get the token. They will give 3000 tokens and if we are early/lucky we may get one. So the entire CoWin registration system has gone for toss making it our usual system of queuing up and rushing to become the first come to be first serve. No need of any booking or appointment. Anyone can come and stand in the queue if s/he reached before you then your appointment is of no use.
This was confirmed when we visited the centre on 26th April 21. As attached in the pictures the queues were seen running till the highway and all registered/unregistered; 1st dose / 2nd dose, everyone in the same queue.
So I just wonder what's the use of registration and booking fifteen days
in advance if finally people have to come early morning and crowd like this as
if in darshan queue? As we know people don't follow all Covid Protocols
strictly and it is difficult to monitor. You can see there is hardly any social
distancing, masks pulled to chins, crowding etc. The risk is enhanced given the
fact that the vaccination centre is just next to Covid Care Centre and the long
queues for vaccination run past through its entrance. The administration makes
the system but themselves not implementing it. The mismanagement is leading to
chaos. This centre has been in the news for wrong reasons which you can Google
and check. One wonders if we are going there for protection or infection. Horror
will unfold from 1st May when sizeable population rush to these chaotic centres
in hordes. Given all this, I have dropped the idea of getting vaccinated now at
this centre and I am cancelling my confirmed booking. Thank you for all the
